Less than one day difference. Being an elopement Less than one day difference.

Being an elopement photographer means being flexible with nature and knowing that it doesn’t owe you freaking ANYTHING.

As much as you can plan out the perfect shoot with the perfect epic backdrop, you can’t force nature to cooperate.

Sometimes it’s a snowstorm that covers the Grand Canyon in a thick fog, sometimes it’s a coyote in the desert forcing you to retreat to a safer space, sometimes it’s a new permit requirement that won’t allow you to shoot in that location anymore. Whatever it is, respect it - nature does not belong to us.

Grand Canyon, AZ. 12/31/20. New Year’s Eve. We Grand Canyon, AZ.
12/31/20. New Year’s Eve.

We looked out over the canyon just as the fog was settling over its painted cliffs. Snowflakes fell gently and inconsistently as we made our way around the National Park.

It didn’t take long for the snow to start falling heavier, more decisively. The Grand Canyon was now entirely invisible, covered in calm fog.

The kind of words people say when they get married were said, rings were exchanged, happy tears mixed with melted snowflakes. At the end, everything looked like this.

Recently I was featured in a piece by Shoutout Ari Recently I was featured in a piece by Shoutout Arizona. I was challenged to share about my work, my business, my philosophies on photography - but these things came fairly naturally.

The (surprisingly) hard part? Choosing photos to be featured. This seems like a simple task, but I’ve shot hundreds of thousands of photos for people at this point. How was I supposed to know what would stand out? What moments would resonate with readers?

I took an entire work day to go through every gallery for every wedding I’ve ever shot. I chose one, sometimes two, photos from each gallery. These are just a few of the photos that stood out - not because they’re all technically perfect photos, but because they made me feel something.

Some of the photos I chose made the cut and got featured, some did not. But it was an amazing reminder that the most fulfilling part of my job is being able to deliver real moments, real memories, real emotions. As I prepare my business for the new year, this is what I’ll be focusing on.

Moments matter most.

This month has been insanely busy and I’m so grateful for all the experiences I’ve had with my couples - literally all of them have been just great humans and I loved getting to capture their days.

I’ll be under my pile of editing if anyone needs me 😅
