LA Rooftop Engagement

Vintage-inspired engagement photos on the rooftop of a parking garage in downtown los angeles

Some of my biggest sources of inspiration come from the look and feel of vintage film photos from the 60’s and 70’s. So when Carolina and Edgar got excited about my pitch to do an engagement photo style session on a parking garage rooftop near Downtown LA, I was stoked. We centered the shoot around a vintage convertible Ford Mustang from 1968. I picked a location where we had a backdrop of a shiny skyline and a distant view of the Hollywood Hills. Sunset peeked through downtown buildings to this LA rooftop to give us the golden light in these engagement photos.

Vintage Inspired Engagement Photo Outfits

Carolina and Edgar really embraced the theme of this shoot with their outfits. They brought lots of options to the shoot, then I helped choose what would look best. I am borderline obsessed with 70’s fashion, so this was one of my favorite parts of the photo session. We chose pieces inspired by vintage fashion. Carolina and Edgar’s outfits fit right in with the rad 1968 Mustang. Some of my favorite parts of their outfits were the big bell-bottom jeans, platform boots, see-through crop top, rounded sunglasses, and the bold patterned striped shirt and plaid pants.

You can also find more outfit ideas in my engagement photo outfit guide. I also love helping my couples choose what will look the best in their photos! However, I can’t take credit for the perfect hair and makeup in this shoot. Carolina is actually a bridal hair and makeup artist, and Edgar owns a barbershop called The Manner. You can see Edgar representing his barber shop with the shirt in his second outfit (and his cool mustache).

This LA rooftop photo session is a perfect example of what one of my unique or creative engagement sessions might look like, but these actually aren’t engagement photos. Carolina and Edgar weren’t engaged during these photos. This couple’s photo session actually celebrated their 10th anniversary! I love photographing couples on their anniversaries. Photo sessions can be a unique anniversary gift or way to celebrate. It’s also a perfect way to document your relationship year by year. When you look back through photos, you’ll then have all the bonus memories attached about how far you’ve come since your engagement or wedding.
